Duties of Technical Design
Technical Designer;
The TD works closely with the Designers, Buyers & Product Development Manager to execute the technical development of products/programs. In addition TDs work closely with manufacturers & vendors to ensure product specifications, fit & construction meet quality standards.
Responsibilities:
Work closely with the Design team in order to translate their product ideas into technical drawings. Produce thorough and accurate proto sheets along with detailed construction instructions.
Measure fit samples and making fit and/or construction comments as necessary for all garments developed.
Develop fit and grade specifications consistent with standards.
Review & track all samples for fit and construction & send approvals as necessary to maintain timeline.
Review Top of Production samples and communicate with Merchandiser, Product Development Manager & Quality Control to solve and anticipate any problems with garments. Be aware of these production problems in order to correct them for following seasons.
Gather information necessary for successful product development and maintain complete and accurate records within the product development system. This includes, but is not limited to, producing technical drawings, producing proto sheets, keeping fit sample date tracking system current and producing packaging and labeling specifications.
Responsible for completing all fittings & reviews of proto-type garments.
Review all photo samples for accuracy and make note of any discrepancies on photo sample tags. Review photo samples with Merchandiser.
Communicate closely with Merchandiser, Product Development Manager & Quality Control to ensure that all necessary information is effectively communicated between them and other team members. Be aware of Merchandiser, Product Development Manager, Quality Control and vendor issues and, when necessary, be prepared to offer solutions.
Ensure that any other department, including Customer Service, the Fulfillment Center and the Web, have accurate and timely information as requested.
Communicate closely with vendors throughout the season, especially in the area of garment fit. Travel to factory if necessary to address continuing problems.
Review return rates each season to identify fit issues; revise garment specifications accordingly.
Stay current with all aspects of product development of garments for each season including understanding and reviewing body concepts. Keep abreast of line content and be aware of product performance issues; in particular. seasonal return rates.
Stay current with any technology and training that aid in successful completion of the Technical Designer position.
